Why We Stopped Selling Cloth Nappies — And Why They’re Back

Posted by Lianne Stevenson on

Reusable nappies are where Green Cheeks began.

When I first started this business, my son was a baby. Tiny. Innocent. Squishy. The kind of baby that makes you stare at them while they sleep and think “how on earth am I responsible for a whole human?”

At the time, I couldn’t bear the thought of something so small and new contributing to the world’s growing pile of waste. Disposable nappies piling up in landfill just didn’t sit right with me. I wanted to do something — even if it was just one small thing — to make his eco footprint as gentle as possible.

So I designed reusable nappies based entirely on my own parenting style and values:

  • practical

  • affordable over time

  • kind to baby’s skin

  • better for the planet

They weren’t about perfection. They were about trying.

Fast-forward seven years…
That same baby now lives largely on ready meals, snacks I swore I’d never buy, and is absolutely obsessed with Minecraft. He’s louder, messier, and very definitely not the same child who inspired reusable nappies in the first place 😅

And somewhere along the way — lockdowns, returning to work, rising costs, real-life exhaustion — reusable nappies quietly slipped out of the spotlight.

They became harder to justify financially to restock.
Parents had less headspace.
Upfront costs felt heavier during the cost-of-living squeeze.

So I paused them.

But here’s the thing…

Those values never really went away.

And I know many parents still feel the same way I did — even if real life looks different now.

You might not want to use cloth nappies full time.
You might only use them at home.
You might not dare ask nursery.
You might quietly avoid the conversation with grandparents.

That’s all OK.

Reusable nappies don’t have to be all or nothing.
They can be some of the time, when it works, when it feels manageable.

So they’re back.

Not with pressure.
Not with guilt.
Not with perfect Instagram routines.

Just colourful, practical reusable nappies for parents who:

  • care about the planet

  • care about their budget in the long run

  • and care about staying sane in real life

If that sounds like you — you’re very welcome here 💚
